A393 Reinforcement mesh is used in the construction of heavy-duty concrete slabs for roadways and car parks where heavy use is expected, either in single or double layers of reinforcement. The mesh fabric is also used for walls and slabs in concrete flooring. When encased in concrete, mesh greatly increases the rigidity and strength of the structure. As the coefficient of thermal expansion is similar in both steel and concrete, a steel mesh reinforced concrete slab or wall expands and contracts at a comparable rate, therefore temperature fluctuations will not cause cracking of the concrete. Reinforcing steel is very strong in tension and concrete is strong in compression, by combining these two materials a very durable building structure is created. Steel reinforcement mesh is frequently specified by a qualified structural engineer.
A393 is available from stock in ECO, Flying End (2.4 x 4.8M) and Merchant size (3.6m x 2.0m) sheets for easier transport and handling on site.
ECO Mesh offers an increased efficiency engineered solution for reinforced concrete floors by saving a reinforcement wire on each lap of the mesh sheet. ECO mesh has the same centres as standard fabric mesh with the exception of the external overhangs which are 200mm compared to 100mm.
Genius Hints Always have sufficient concrete covering for the mesh, both above, below and around. Mesh should be supported from below at regular intervals by Continuous Hystools, Circular Wire Spacers, Concrete Bar Spacers or Plate Spacers which are made for this purpose. Lemon carries a large stock of these and many more accessories and can deliver to site along with your reinforcement on one of our specialist crane offload lorries.
Standardised mesh fabric is defined in British Standard denominations (such as A193, or B785). These numbers refer to the cross-sectional areas of the mesh per metre squared. So with A193 mesh for example, there is 193mm2 of steel in each 1m (1000mm) width of mesh.
All reinforcing mesh is manufactured to BS4483/2005 with CARES certification. Please visit our downloads section for Lemon CARES approval certificates.
